Mary Ellen Wilkinson emigrated from Scotland to Patagonia some time before 1900. After her husband Hugh MacLean died, leaving her with five children, she remarried (to William Henry Betts) and settled in Santa Cruz province. The recipient is her first husband's brother, who had emigrated to Washington State, USA.
