Most sheep ranches were in isolated locations, and
few had sufficient children or resources to warrant establishing a rural primary
school: many young children were therefore obliged to board in the city. The
families in this photo were fortunate in having their own facilities: here
the manager´s children socialized naturally with the sons and daughters of
farm labourers.
