Residential Buildings in Southern Patagonia

Tekenika Bay, Hoste Island, Tierra del Fuego
Yahgan Shelter, 1898

When Anglican missionaries set up operations at Tekenika in 1892, many of the nomadic Yahgans gathered semi-permanently around the mission buildings. This family was still living in the traditional shelter of sticks and branches, although all were wearing European-style clothes. For more images of this mission, see the Tekenika Album.
