"Ona Indian" postcard (written 1904)
This studio photograph exemplifies
the romantic myth of the "noble savage". The young man
aiming his bow and arrow is clad discreetly with a short kilt,
while a second arrow protrudes from the quiver at his hip. Behind
him lies a guanaco skin and perhaps a rocky mound. The backcloth
motif of waves or rolling pampa completes the illusion. [More
